Voxhelm

Accessibility

Use your Windows PC by voice, in your own words.

Voxhelm is a voice assistant that operates Windows for you. Hold one key, say what you want the way you would say it to a person, and it opens the app, clicks the button or finds the file, then tells you what it did. No command list to learn, no scripts, no setup.

Voxhelm is made for anyone who works at a computer, because talking to your PC should be as ordinary as typing. It matters most to people who rely on voice. If RSI, limited hand use, tremor, a mobility or vision impairment, or an injury keeps you off the mouse and keyboard, the tasks that took a chain of clicks and keystrokes become one sentence.

Download for Windows Free to start. Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.

How it works

  1. Hold the talk key anywhere in Windows. It is Right Alt unless you change it, and you can set it to any key or pair of keys that suits your keyboard.
  2. Speak naturally. "Open Settings." "Switch to my email." "What am I looking at?"
  3. Voxhelm does it on your real screen, and says what it did, so you know without having to look.

It asks before anything that cannot be undone, such as deleting a file or sending an email.

Natural requests instead of fixed commands

Most voice-control software for Windows works on a fixed vocabulary: you learn the exact phrase for each action and say it word for word. Voxhelm works the other way round. It looks at what is on your screen, understands what you asked for, and carries out the steps itself. "Find the invoice I got last week and open it" is one sentence, not six commands.

If you relied on Windows Speech Recognition, which Microsoft has discontinued, Voxhelm is a way to keep running your PC by voice.

Your language

You can speak to Voxhelm in many languages, not only English, and it answers in the language you speak. The app's own windows and settings are in English for now.

What it does not do yet

We would rather you know before you install:

  • Shutting down, restarting or signing out of Windows.
  • Changing deeper Windows settings works by operating the Settings app on screen, which is less dependable than the actions above.
  • Voxhelm is not a screen reader. It describes and reads what you ask about, but it does not narrate everything on screen as you move.
  • Voxhelm's own window is in English and has a light theme only.

We release improvements often, and they arrive inside the app. If something you need is missing, tell us at support@voxhelm.de.

Questions

Can I control my whole Windows PC by voice?

Voxhelm controls the everyday parts by voice: opening apps, switching windows, clicking buttons, working through websites, finding files, typing, and system controls such as volume, brightness and locking the computer. You hold one key, say what you want, and it does it and tells you what it did. A few things are not available yet, such as shutting down or restarting.

Do I need to learn voice commands?

No. There is no command list to memorise and nothing to set up. You speak the way you would ask a person, for example "open my email" or "find the file I saved yesterday", and Voxhelm works out the steps itself.

Is Voxhelm a replacement for Windows Speech Recognition?

For many people, yes. Microsoft has discontinued Windows Speech Recognition. Voxhelm works differently: instead of fixed commands, it understands natural requests and acts on whatever is on screen. It runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Can people with RSI or limited hand use rely on it?

Yes. Voxhelm replaces long sequences of clicks and keystrokes with one spoken sentence, and dictation lets you write in any app without typing. You press one key to talk; everything else happens by voice.

Does it help with low vision?

It can, in a practical way: you do not have to find small controls, because you name what you want and Voxhelm finds it. It speaks back what it did, can tell you what is on the screen, and can read a web page aloud. It is not a screen reader and does not replace one.

Which languages can I speak?

You can speak to Voxhelm in many languages, not only English, and it answers in the language you use. The app's own interface is currently in English.

Do I need technical knowledge or an AI account?

No. Install it, sign in with Google, and start talking. There are no API keys, no models to install and no scripts to write.

Is the microphone always listening?

No. The microphone is on only while you hold the key. The screen is read only when you ask.

What does it cost?

There is a free plan with half an hour of voice a day, no card required. Paid plans raise the limits. If you need Voxhelm because of a disability and the cost is out of reach, email support@voxhelm.de.

Try it on your own PC

Install it, sign in with Google, hold the talk key and speak. The free plan needs no card.
